The Street Delivery gig was cancelled on account of rain.
Saturday started off as a sunny day but the afternoon turned into something grey and wet and menacing to electronics. I got there around 7 and found the street corner where the tables were set up and ready for me to start performing. A Romanian Contemporary Folk group were already there and playing so we had to wait until 8 o’clock. It wasn’t really raining, I mean there were enough drops for the guys to have covered up the mixer with a piece of plastic, but I figured I’d manage with a couple of umbrellas or something. Then the rain stopped and they took the plastic off the mixer so I decided to leave our second thoughts behind and risk playing. There were a lot of people there and I liked the atmosphere going on there. There were people dancing and clapping and yelling and such, so this served to lift my spirits a little bit. At 5 minutes to 8, it started to pour like a tropical storm. It was raining so hard I was half expecting to see stray dogs and cats pair up and start a line towards somewhere on the outskirts of Bucharest where a supposed Ark would be waiting.
At 8:30, the thing stopped for about 10 minutes, and then it started again, worse.
Needless to say I didn’t perform that night. The stand where I was supposed to start dropping beats was the only completely uncovered one over there. As in there was a makeshift expo over there (photos by teenagers on a bunch of sticks and boards in the middle of the road) and even that thing had a cloth over it. My stand consisted two tables and a mixer in a street corner, with nothing over my head. I didn’t get exactly why there was nothing to cover all the expensive electronic equipment over there, but I’m not upset about the thing. I didn’t start anything, no gear got busted.
The gig on Friday was decent enough, though. The speakers over there were busted, but it got fixed and when I started jamming, the place got really relaxed and awesome. Some people started dancing, some started smoking stuff and every aspect mixed pretty well.
While I was playing, the guy who had organised the whole thing invited me to do a set this Friday, opening for a fashion show. Stay tuned for that.
I also had part of the gig filmed, so I’ll post a video if I find the time to edit it.
