Winning a MIDI Fighter 3D and shooting Munko’s Den

I was very surprised to find out that DJTechTools decided to give away four MIDI Fighters 3D instead of just one, and created two separate categories of winners of their competition: “Best Performance” and “Most Creative Video”. “Best Performance” was awarded to an awesome finger drummer called Riccardo Betti, but I was even more pleasantly surprised to see that I’d won “Most Creative Video”!

Here’s what they said about my video on their website:

“As DJs, we’re biased towards folks who introduce us to unknown musical genres. Do it in a hilarious way, and we’ll like you even more. How could this video not be the winner for most creative?”

This means I’m getting a MIDI Fighter 3D as soon as the guys can send it over, which makes me pretty happy. This is the second contest I’ve won in the last year, after the custom orange launchpad Novation awarded me after their “Video Showdown”.

In other news, I streamed my first ever Ustream live broadcast on Sunday, April 8th, thus starting a series of monthly live performances I’m calling Munko’s Den, since everything is taking place in my own home.  I’ll be recording everything and uploading it to my YouTube channel, as usual. Here’s the first episode:

Most of the set is improvised, and performed, rather than played in DJ fashion. I did play two of my tracks like that, at times when I ran out of inspiration (and as a way of taking a bit of a break), but I was actively involved in making the music during most of the show.

The first episode was a success, and I can’t wait to do the next one, on May 6th!

  1. [...] This is a contest entry to the DJTT 2012 MIDI Fighter 3D Competition. Aside from the “Instrumental Hip-Hop” orchestral sample and the bagpipes (which were recorded via the camera mic), all sounds are from Mad Zach’s Drum Rack (even the Gabber bass drum at the end – I just added a bit of overdrive to the master). I obviously hope to win…( *EDIT* …which I did!) [...]
